Hello [admin recipient],

I am [MIT affiliation, community member, etc.]. I found out through an op-ed in the Tech that MIT is prioritizing developing luxury housing instead of supporting student needs first. I think this is unconscionable to be increasing the rent burden on grad families and students who are already spending such a large portion of their income on rent, even with the subsidies you are offering. This ends up still being a 35% rent hike, which is enormous. Have you read the petition or the Tech article?
Will your office help to reopen the process for student input on these decisions and extend the decision deadline for the current residents of Eastgate? Will you set up a meeting with them ASAP to discuss their demands? We need to know soon if you are willing to hear more student input on this decision which we were left out of. If you are not willing to meet with us, then you are knowingly playing with our lives, choosing profit over our well being.
MIT on-campus housing is especially critical for supporting international students, grad families, and students from other marginalized groups. This new housing is clearly not meant to help disadvantaged students. Who is this new housing meant for at MIT?
The petition written by Eastgate residents already has over 1,900 signatures. This matter is critically urgent and needs a response immediately.
[personal addition on importance of housing/outrage over MIT’s current housing policy, etc.]
